Ti Top Island is about seven kilometers southeast of Bai Chay. Its beach is in the shape of a crescent moon. The sand is snow-white from the washing tides. On November 22, 1962, the astronaut Ghermann Ti Top, a hero of the former Soviet Union, visited the island, accompanied by Ho Chi Minh. Uncle Ho named the place Ti Top Island in honor of the visit. Thirty-five years later, on June 27, 1997, Ti Top returned to the island bearing his name. Moved by the honor, he wrote the following in the souvenir book of the Management Board of Ha Long Bay: “My deepest thanks to destiny, which has allowed me to come back to this tiny island.” Today it is a popular tourist destination and has various services catering to the beach-going crowd.
